Somerset offers grandiose alt-rock music, plays O'Brien's 09.01

Boston's Somerset isn't content with the bare bones alt-rock performance; its particular brand of music is grandiose. The band's upcoming fall record has spawned its second single, "Revere Street," a spectacular display of slick guitar arpeggios, shimmering piano accompaniments, thunderous harmonies, and a much-appreciated opening bassline. The group's deep arsenal of sounds is primed for large venues, evoking the spirit of late '90s alternative rock while modernizing it. The kick drum work in the new single is something to relish in, as is the heroic guitar solo in the climax: the song is a job well done. The band will be performing at O'Brien's Pub in Allston on September 1st and kicking off what is sure to be a busy autumn. We are streaming "Revere Street" below for you. - Rene Cobar

Oceans of the Moon is ready to hypnotize you, sold out show at Sinclair 10.16

Hailing from Providence, Rhode Island, Oceans of the Moon is the kind of group that demands your full attention. Take the band’s music video for its single “Blowing My Mind” as a solid example of its experimental music’s ability to entrance. The footage flashes various objects set to a commercial all-white background as the synths and guitars simmer. The vocals, seemingly on a loop, melt into the mind as the carousel of objects lures you deeper into the video, before you know it, you are hitting that “Replay” button. It is the combination of ominous sounds, fierce vocals, and a deceptively groovy beat that keeps the listener swirling in the band’s electronic vortex. The group’s self-titled debut record is out now, with a performance set for the Sinclair on October 16th. We are streaming the music video for “Blowing My Mind” in celebration. - Rene Cobar

Tall Horse releases intriguing double single "Dogwater/Bedwetter"

Tall Horse offers a curious blend of country and alternative rock to start your week right. The band's leading guitar riffs and bright basslines distort to contrast the distinctive vocals outpouring with emotion. The Portland, Maine band's new double single "Dogwater/Bedwetter" is Red Hot Chili Peppers' soft side meets Kings of Leon for an unconventional sound born in New England. The rhythms are steady, the atmosphere easy-going, the breakdowns heartfelt: the music is as emotionally honest as it gets. The group's latest effort should jolt them back into the New England music scene, and we are intrigued. The double single is streaming below to cure your Monday blues. - Rene Cobar

Perspective, a lovely hand to hold previews new record with explosive single

Nashua, New Hampshire's Perspective, a lovely hand to hold has us excited for the release of its full-length record Lousy on September 27th. "Subject to Change" is the second single off the album and it presents a deceptively super-charged preview heavy on distortion, just right on the dynamics, and fierce as hell. The song's combination of indie and math-rock is doused with grunge fuel, and it sure explodes in the culminating breakdowns. The band is keeping the spirit of rock 'n' roll alive and very well, with sick drum fills and no reservations. Fresh off a performance at ONCE in Somerville expect some autumn dates after the record's release. We are streaming "Subject to Change" for you below. - Rene Cobar
